TOWN centre residents have been invited to a meeting tomorrow where they will have the chance to raise concerns about the road layout around Regent Circus.

There has been a lot of concern from residents that the ‘shared space’ opposite the complex is not safe and that there is the risk of a serious accident.

Footfall around the site increased after the Morrisons supermarket opened last year and a cinema, along with several restaurants, is due to open in the coming weeks. The area is expected to get much busier.

The shared crossing space means neither cars nor pedestrians have right of way, which has been the cause of many ongoing concerns.

At the meeting, residents will have the opportunity to chat with local councillors and police officers to air their views.

The meeting will also be a chance for people to voice their opinions about other concerns in the central locality.

One issue recently been raised is that of parking along Manchester Road. Restrictions have been put in place but traders have said it is having a negative impact on business.

Other attendees at the meeting will include Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson, who will discuss a proposal to raise the police’s section of council tax.

The meeting will be chaired by Councillor Dave Wood (Lib Dem, Eastcott), who said it would provide the best opportunity for residents to find out what the big issues were in the area.

He said: “This is a great opportunity for residents to meet all their local councillors and have a real say in what happens where they live.

“There will also be representatives there from the police and various council departments.

“Some of the issues, such as the police precept, residents’ parking zones reviews, local policing and community grants, are clearly of great interest to many people, but we’re happy for any issue to be raised.

“We really want to know what concerns people have and the ideas they have to make their neighbourhood better.”

The meeting will be held in the main hall of the Broadgreen Community Centre tomorrow night, starting at 7pm.

Council officers and councillors will be on hand from from 6.30pm to have informal discussions with residents about the issues facing them.
