THE deadline for nominations for the 2015 Pride of Swindon Awards is fast approaching.

February 2 is the last day for people to submit their nominations for the awards, which are now in their sixth year, and recognise those who have played an important role in the Swindon community.

A spokesman for the initiative urged people to make sure they got their nominations in on time.

“The awards recognise people who have made a difference to your community by helping others,” he said.

“So why not recognise their contribution and achievements by nominating them for an award?”

Examples of people who may be eligible for an award include: l Volunteers who have given their time selflessly for years.

  • l A child or adult who has displayed remarkable courage.
  • l A person who has helped reduce crime in your area.
  • l Someone who has given unselfish service to one of the hundreds of sports clubs in the town.
  • l An exemplary young person who should be recognised as a role model.
  • l An employee who has gone the extra mile for those in the community.
  • l An inspiring teacher or a caring nurse or doctor.
  • l An extra-special neighbour.

The spokesman said: “There are two types of award. The first recognises the achievements of individuals in the community. But, if you don’t want to single out an individual for recognition, instead you can nominate a team of people that carry out an invaluable service that benefits local people.”

Councillor Teresa Page, Mayor of Swindon, said she was looking forward to the presentation event, which will take place later in the year.

“The Pride of Swindon Awards honour people who have gone the extra mile to make Swindon a great place to live. It will be my honour to meet them,” she said.

This should be returned to the Mayor’s Office, Civic Offices, Euclid Street, Swindon, SN1 2JH by Monday, February 2.
