BUS operators in Swindon could be left behind if video maker Jacob Ford’s latest YouTube upload goes viral.

Hot on the heels of commuter James Heptonstall’s Race The Tube video, which has been viewed nearly six million times and saw the athlete racing trains between stations, 19-year-old Jacob has created his own Swindon version.

Jacob filmed his friend Oliver Sands racing a Stagecoach bus.

And 21-year-old Oliver, who works at Run Swindon, in Wood Street, beat the bus from Devizes Road to Fleming Way.

As Jacob pulls into Fleming Way on the bus, Oliver emerges from the steps near Debenhams, after taking a shortcut through Regent Street.

“I was sat on the bus filming from inside and people at the back were clicking on to the fact he was racing the bus,” said Jacob, of Lister Road, Wroughton.

“You could hear them saying ‘he’s going to get caught up.’ There was commentary on whether he was going to beat it or not.”

The video, entitled Infuse Your Life With Action, has so far totted up 296 views.

Jacob said: “There’s no money from doing these videos, I just want people to watch them and take away a message from it. It’s just something creative for me to do. It’s like a piece of art.

“The whole idea is doing something outside your day-to-day life. For us, we wanted to see if it was possible to beat the bus.

“The message isn’t for everyone to start racing a bus, but it’s little things that can make a change.”
