A NEW series of roadshows warning men about the symptoms of prostate cancer will be hitting the road this weekend.

The condition is the most common type of cancer which men experience and the Great Western Hospital events aim to encourage them to seek help when problems occur when the issue is more treatable.

And in a bid to raise awareness among males, specialist nurses from the hospital will be in Emlyn Square, in the Railway Village, between 10am and 2pm on Saturday.

Samantha Richards, uro-oncology clinical nurse specialist, said the event would be giving out information and informing men on how they can do more to identify potential cases.

“It’s important that people are aware of the symptoms of prostate cancer and talk to their GP if they have any concerns,” she said.

“This is a chance for us to talk to local people about prostate cancer, offer friendly, confidential advice and answer any questions.

“We can also direct you to further information and support. Pop along and find out more.”

Most of the 40,000 new prostate cancer cases diagnosed every year develop in men aged 50 or older. In the UK, around one in eight men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives.

The cancer usually develops slowly so it’s important to be aware of possible symptoms, with one of the key points for concern being men who experience problems urinating.

Further information events are scheduled to take place at the Punjabi Centre, in Kembrey Street, between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, March 14, and at the Brunel Shopping Centre, near House of Fraser, between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday, April 11.
