SPORTY youngsters made the most of their half-term break last week at the Draycott Sports Camp, at Oakhurst Primary School.

Dozens flocked to the school in Shaftesbury Road to take part in a daily schedule of activity throughout the school holidays for primary aged children.

The camp was established two years ago by Mark Draycott, who also works as a PE teacher at Oakhurst.

The idea behind the camp was to create an exciting, fun and friendly atmosphere for children of all abilities to enjoy their school holidays.

During the week, the camp was also visited by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson, who took the opportunity to have a go at the games himself.

He said: “It was absolutely fantastic to see this great initiative in action.

“This sports camp is a wonderful facility for children to have access to over the school holidays, and it’s great for working parents across the Northern Sector to have the option of good value activities for their children.

“It’s so easy these days for children to stay indoors during the holidays watching TV or playing on video games.

“Draycott Sports Camps ensures that children stay active and get involved with team activities each and every day. There is also something on offer for every child, whether they are into sports or not.

“Not only is Draycott Sport Camp a great choice for parents, but it is also a valuable asset for the community in terms of promoting children’s health and well-being.”

During the week, the children took part in a variety of different activities, including lacrosse, netball and football.

There was also a question and answer session between Justin and all of the children attending where the questions ranged from what it was really like to be in Parliament, to what football team Justin supports. The final question was a challenge to see how many kick-ups Justin could do.

Draycott sports camp will next be running throughout the summer holidays at Oakhust Primary School.

They also have ongoing after-school clubs which run throughout the school term.
