SHOPPERS in Wharf Green gave their support to a national housing campaign yesterday.

Housing firm GreenSquare is leading the Homes For Britain movement and have been touring the region canvassing for public backing for the scheme, which hopes to see it made easier for first-time buyers.

Howard Toplis, GreenSquare’s chief executive, said: “So many people struggle to pay for a roof over their heads or still live with their parents because they can’t afford to fly the nest.

“But it doesn’t have to be this way.

“Homes For Britain is calling on all political parties to commit to end the housing crisis within a generation and we want to drum up as much support for the campaign as we can.”

Members of the public were asked to sign a petition and put a brick in a display wall to support the campaign.

There will also be a rally in London on Tuesday, March 17.

Swindon Council leader David Renard has given his backing to Homes For Britain.

He said: “I think more housing is needed across the country as there is more demand than supply.

“We have worked with GreenSquare a lot over the years and I’m pleased to support them.”
