FAMILIES are being urged to get out their bikes and take part in this year’s Prospect Sunday Bike Ride – using the bank holiday weekend to get training.

The event is organised to raise money for the Wroughton-based charity and people of all ages can take part.

Participants will set off from points in both Swindon and Marlborough, making the ride suitable for cyclists of all ages and all abilities.

Experienced riders will be able to tackle a demanding there-and-back challenge, cycling the full route and then riding all the way back, while less experienced riders can sign up to ride to the midway point of the ride and then head back to their start point in either town.

“We have chosen a route to appeal to the maximum possible number of riders,” said Prospect Hospice events fundraiser Genevieve Arney.

“And for families who don’t necessarily take their bikes out during the winter months, we are encouraging as many as possible to get their bikes out with the arrival of the lighter evenings and set themselves a challenge to get back into their cycling this spring, while raising some funds for a local charity.”

Among those who will be taking part in the event is Zoe Patey of Highworth, who will be pedalling along with her family.

They decided to cycle in memory of Zoe’s mum Dorothy, who was supported at home by Prospect Hospice at the end of her life.

“We want to raise funds for Prospect Hospice to say thank you for the fantastic care mum received in her final year,” she said.

“She was a great mum and I am sure that she would be pleased and proud that the family will be taking part in the Sunday Bike Ride together.”

The ride will take place on May 10 so there is still plenty of time for everyone to sign-up.

Adults can register for Prospect’s Sunday Bike Ride for £15, and under 16s for just £3, while the whole family can sign up for £35. The suggested sponsorship target is £100 for individuals and £150 for a family. To register visit www.prospect-hospice.net
