TWO fast food restaurants have completed expansions in Swindon and cooked up 15 jobs for the town in the process.

McDonald’s outlets at Greenbridge Retail Park and Orbital Shopping Park have doubled the width of their respective drive-throughs, installing two lanes.

As a result, the golden arches have opened up 15 new positions have been created, some of which are still to yet to all be filled by franchisee Carl Room.

“We are looking for anybody who is willing to put into the hardworking effort of these restaurants,” he said.

“As a local businessman I’m very keen to continue to invest in my community and ensure every customer receives the best service possible.

“The addition of these dual-lane drive-throughs will not only boost job opportunities in the local area but the customer experience too as we’ll be able to reduce waiting times and alleviate congestion.

“We need these people to cover the increase in car flow we will get coming through the new side-by-sides.

“We are continuing to fill these roles. We still need a number of jobs filling in both restaurants.

“This expansion is creating jobs and more income for the local economy.”

The new positions have brought overall employment across these two restaurants to nine full and 15 part-time jobs.

The investment at the two outlets includes the extensive refurbishment of the exterior of the restaurants.

And the new look drive-throughs will enable two cars to order simultaneously using dual-order displays, improving the overall efficiency and speed of service.

This is the first set of expansions completed by Carl as franchisee since he took on the businesses last year from Paul Booth.

His biggest project so thus far has been the opening of the newest McDonald’s in town, in Great Western Way near Bridgemead.

Carl says the branch is ticking over, according to Carl, but the publicised traffic issues near Bruce Street Bridges do seem to be affecting the business.

“It’s going reasonably well. Sales are very good there,” he said.

“I would say we are seeing problems in the build-up of traffic caused by Bruce Street Bridges at evenings and weekends.

“We, like everyone in Swindon, would like to see an end to those works the sooner the better.”
