MOVIE lovers who head along to Empire today will have an even sweeter deal when they pick up a free ice cream.

The cinema in Greenbridge will be taking part in Ben & Jerry’s Annual Free Cone Day by taking part in the annual giveaway for its tenth year.

Visitors to the picture house between 12pm and 8pm can pick up a Caramel Chew Chew cone, with takings being donated to MacMillan Cancer Support.

“Ben & Jerry’s are a key part of our cinema experience and we’re delighted to welcome Free Cone Day again to our cinemas,” said Gordon MacDonald, Retail Manager for Empire Cinemas.

It is the 37th anniversary of Free Cone Day, a traditin which was born in 1979 when the founders of the Ben & Jerry ie cream giant, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, wanted to celebrate surviving their first year in business.

They wanted to thank their local community of Vermont for supporting their start-up ice cream venture, by giving out free scoops of their concoctions. More than three decades later, it’s a global giveaway in 36 countries resulting in over a million free scoops.

Empire Cinemas jumped in on the fun 10 years ago, supporting their brand partner and customers with a free scoop of tasty ice cream flavours.
