ENERGETIC and dedicated fundraisers are being sought to raise much needed funds to help keep the Wiltshire Air Ambulance flying.

The charity has a series of events lined up to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

One of the group’s most popular activities is the White Horse Challenge, a sponsored challenge taking place on July 4 and 5.

The event will see those taking part walking the areas of seven of the region’s white horses.

The challenge, now in its 10th year, has raised £110,000 for the air ambulance charity.

It is organised by Wiltshire businesses Monahans Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, Rygor Commercials and Rocking Horse Nursery, with distances ranging from a seven mile family challenge to a 52-mile walk.

Cyclists looking to support the group can also sign up to the Wiltshire Big Wheel, taking place on September 6, with 40 places being available.

A highlight of the fundraising programme is a mammoth international trek across the Sahara Desert. It will take place between October 10 and 18.

Rebecca de la Bedoyere, the air ambulance’s fundraising manager, said: “We’re delighted to offer these fantastic challenge events for our silver jubilee year.

“We’ve been flying and saving lives for 25 years thanks to the amazing people of Wiltshire, and we’re really hoping people will get stuck into a challenge this year and go the extra mile to raise vital funds.

“We’ve got challenges to suit all ages and levels of fitness. You can stay local and enjoy Wiltshire’s stunning scenery or travel further afield with us for the challenge of a lifetime in the Sahara. You can take part with your family, friends, colleagues or on your own.

“Whatever you get involved with, every penny raised in sponsorship will be helping to keep our life-saving helicopter and crew flying.”

The Sahara fundraiser has 16 places available. Wiltshire Air Ambulance needs to raise £2.5 million a year to ensure their service continues. Their helicopter operates 19 hours a day and the actions of their skilled team have helped save countless numbers of lives.
