DRIVERS are facing a difficult morning as the M4 closure, with a queue of five miles being reported just before 9.30am, has a knock-on effect across Wiltshire.

A lorry overturned on the M4 in the early hours of this morning between Junction 15, for Swindon East/Marlborough and Junction 14 for Hungerford.

Although it has now been removed, the damage caused to the road by 300 litres of spilled diesel means that the M4 eastbound has been closed.

Traffic is being diverted via the A419 north towards Swindon, the B4192 south via Liddington to Hungerford, and A338 north back to the M4, junction 14.

This causied delays across Swindon and beyond.

The Highways Agency has now said: "All closures have been removed following the carriageway treatment and delays should start to clear M4 J15-J14. Thanks for your patience."

Traffic was reported to be queuing with delays on the A3102 Great Western Way, Swindon, the A346 Marlborough Road, Chiseldon, the A4 Bath Road at Froxfield, South Street, Aldbourne, the B4005 Wharf Road, Wroughton, and elsewhere.

Meanwhile the A361 was closed following an accident at the junction with Bell Hill, Seend, involving a motorcycle this morning.

A man in his twenties suffered leg injuries in the incident. The road has now reopened.

And the A420 is blocked in both directions between the A4175 Bath Road junction in Bridge Yate and Cold Ashton Roundabout, Cold Ashton, because of an overturned lorry.

There is congestion to the Marshfield junction.
