David Jones store manager at Pets at Home, Swindon Bridgemead writes about your pets
SUMMER is just around the corner and no doubt you’re thinking of packing up the car and going off on a holiday adventure – but if you’re considering taking your beloved four-legged friend with you, make sure you consider their comfort and safety on a long car journey, Pets can suffer from motion sickness just like humans can, but there are a few things you can do and keep an eye on to ensure they don’t get poorly.
Before you travel, spend some time getting your pet used to the idea of it – whether that’s being in their carrier or on the car seat. If your pet isn’t in a carrier, you must keep them safe and secure by using a seat belt.
Don’t feed cats and dogs immediately before travel – having an empty stomach will make them less likely to vomit. Make sure they drink plenty of water on the journey to keep them hydrated, and take frequent rest breaks so you can both stretch your legs and enjoy some fresh air!
Special pheromone sprays and collars can help alleviate travel stress. Spray it in your pet’s carrier or on a blanket a few days before you travel and your pet will feel more relaxed and comfortable.
If you’ve never travelled with your pet before, or have any questions about how to keep them stress-free on a journey, pop in-store to speak to one of our colleagues.
