CHART-topping indie rockers The 1975 will put tickets for a Swindon show on sale this morning – following singer Will Young, who has also announced a gig in the town.

The Manchester band announced a 16-date tour on Wednesday, with Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre chosen for their penultimate date on Friday, November 27.

Meanwhile Will, a former Pop Idol winner, has announced a show at the same venue on November 25, with tickets already on sale.

The 1975, a four-piece, topped the UK albums chart in September 2013 with its self-titled debut, made tickets available in a pre-sale to O2 mobile phone customers yesterday, but many are still available from 9am on Friday.

Fans were declaring their delight at Wednesday’s announcement across Twitter. Frontman Matthew Healy and his bandmates have never played in Swindon before.

@becks0wen said: “Anyone know where Swindon is bc that’s where I’m seeing The 1975 loooool.”

@grace_steckerl said: “the last good people that came to Swindon was McFly but now the 1975 holy.”

@uansinked posted: “the 1975 are coming to Swindon and no one literally comes here I’m so happy !!”

@jadeharrietvox tweeted: “1975 are playing Swindon in November and I may cry with excitement!!!!”

The band, who have been teasing their second LP recently, have announced a series of dates for November, kicking off in Liverpool on November 9, before heading to Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Manchester, Brighton and other major cities.

There is a date at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on November 24.

In a letter written with the tour announcement, the band commented on the travels they have been on since launching their debut in 2013.

“We have toured the world playing over 25,000 shows in 400 different countries (that’s a slight exaggeration but it was a lot) and we have had the privilege of encountering the countless faces that make up our incredibly loyal and ebulliently peculiar fan-base,” the band said.

This winter tour is being used as a launch pad by the band for bigger shows and better-known festivals in 2016.

“The best way to start is the way we did before – in venues we have loved and places that feel intimate enough to do a proper new show,” the letter said.

“With people who really want to be there. Or need to be there in some extreme cases.

“We have decided to start touring again this year, November 2015.

“Due to the size of the venues that we feel are appropriate for this particular tour and taking into consideration the humbling dedication that I have felt from a lot of our fans I predict that only the most dedicated will end up with tickets.

“This can only be remedied by our reciprocated dedication to playing more and more shows. I’ll see you soon with more music and drama and you’ve known the title all along.”

The Swindon show will start at 7pm and tickets are available through seetickets.com.
