IT’s time to celebrate summer- with a splash.

Unbeknown to many munchkins in Swindon a brand new water attraction, with a difference, opened its doors in Chippenham in July.

Despite a rather limited demand for a spritz during this nippy and showery summer of ours, the Splashpad has proved a hit with little ones who have made the most of racing through water fountains, dancing under nozzles and zigzagging around floor sprays.

The new water activity in John Coles Park is aimed at children ages up to 12 and fully accessible for young visitors with disabilities and mobility issues.

“It’s been lovely to see children so excited and enthusiastic about it and having such a good time,” said Chippenham Town Council deputy chief executive Adrian Jones. “The Splashpad is a great addition to the children’s facilities in John Coles Park.”

There has been a huge interest in the Splashpad online from further afield with more than 28,000 people accessing posts on Chippenham Town Council’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.

The feature was funded by £45,000 from the town council, a £5,000 grant from Chippenham Borough Lands Charity and £45,089 of funding from developers building in the town.

The Splashpad is free. John Coles Park is situated off Malmesbury Road, SN15 1NZ. It is open daily from 8 am until 9pm in the summer.

Parking at John Coles Park is limited.
