DETECTIVES are appealing for information following a knife-point robbery which occurred at a shop in Groundwell Road yesterday.

At approximately 9.25pm, a man entered the Co-Operative store wearing what is believed to have been a devil face mask.

He went straight to the till area and brandished what is believed to have been a 'bread knife' which he pointed towards the male cashier, before demanding he hand over money from the till.

The cashier handed over around £200 and the man left the store on foot. It is not clear in which direction he left.

The man is described as approximately 6ft tall, of slim build with broad shoulders. He was wearing a black crew neck, long sleeve top, black trousers or jeans, black trainers and a red or purple mask which covered the whole of his head.

Temporary Detective Sergeant, Sean Tregunna, said: "This was a very frightening experience for the cashier, who thankfully, was not hurt during the incident.

"I understand this incident may cause some concern within the local community, but I would like to take this opportunity to reassure members of the public that an extensive and thorough investigation is being conducted by officers, including CCTV analysis and house to house enquiries.

"This is a fairly busy area - with a number of shops, restaurants and houses nearby - therefore it is highly possible that somebody may have seen this man.

"One female customer is believed to have left the store as the suspect entered, and we would be very keen to speak to her. We would also like to speak to anybody who was in the Groundwell Road area between 9pm and 9.40pm, who may have witnessed the man arriving or leaving the store."

Anyone with information should call DS Tregunna at Gablecross on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
