RUGBY fans headed to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium today were reminded by Great Western Railway to allow plenty of time to get to the game.

Australia plays Fiji this afternoon as part of the World Cup and the company, formerly First Great Western, is urging passengers to leave as early as possible.

The plea comes days after the company apologised to customers for underestimating the numbers of passengers wanting to use the network to get to the the Ireland-Canada game in the first match of the competition to be held in Cardiff last weekend.

A spokesman for Great Western Railway said: "We are really sorry to everyone who got caught up in that and would encourage those travelling to subsequent games to travel as early as possible."

Wile there were enough seats for passengers wanting to get to Cardiff on trains running between London Paddington and the city passengers had left later than advised, said Great Western Railway.

The company had put on an extra 8,000 seats but needed to add another 1,500.

At the time a spokesman said: "We're sorry for anyone caught up on busy services ahead of today's match at the Millennium Stadium.

"Although we warned customers services were likely to be very busy and to travel early, the number of people wishing to travel is slightly higher than predicted, and passenger numbers have been less evenly spread throughout the day than we would normally expect."

Swindon as well as Paddington, Reading, and Bristol Parkway were all busier than normal because of the game.
