GRANDPARENTS are urged to get exercising this weekend as part of a keep fit iniative aimed at the older generation.

On Saturday and Sunday an outdoor fitness session for over 50s will be held at Lydiard Park. The session is part of National Grandparents Day with event organiser British military Fitness hoping the free sessions will encourage older people to stay active.

Garry Kerr, head of operations and training at BMF, said: “Exercise and physical activity is important at any age but as people get older, we often see a rise in inactivity. There are so many benefits associated with continuous exercise; it helps to keep your heart healthy and can reduce the risk of cancer, not to mention the benefits to mental health.

“At BMF, we have members of all ages and with three different ability groups, nobody gets left behind or feels intimidated. We encourage everyone to try a free class, however this Grandparents Day we look forward to welcoming our more Senior Fitizens to join in a class and see what they can do.”

British Military Fitness specialises in outdoor fitness sessions with a focus on motivation and hard work. It employs more than 400 trainers with a military background

With the government warning older people that a lack of exercise is a hidden killer, BMF is hoping to breed a new group of senior ‘fitizens’ and make exercise accessible for the older generation.
