THE sentence of babysitter Jade Hatt, who had sex with an 11-year-old boy, is being reviewed by the Attorney General.

Jade Hatt, 21, walked free from Swindon Crown Court despite having sex with the boy she was looking after.

Her victim's mum slammed the six-month suspended sentence in the Adver yesterday and now the Attorney General is said to be about to look into the case.

His office must decide whether to send the matter to the Court of Appeal by October 30.

A spokesman for the Attorney General said: “We can confirm that the sentence of Jade Hatt has been referred to this office under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

“The Crown Prosecution Service is providing this office with the case papers. These will be carefully considered and the Attorney or the Solicitor General will then decide whether to refer this sentence to the Court of Appeal for review.

"There have been a number of complaints about this sentence from members of the public."

A total of 48 people have complained, although it only takes one to trigger a review by the attorney general.

An online petition calling for the sentence to be looked at again had been signed by more than 2,800 people by 11am today.

The boy’s mother – who cannot be named for legal reasons – welcomed the announcement.

She said: “I would just like to say a massive thank you for all of the support from members of the public.

"It just goes to prove that there are some really good Samaritans in the world – a massive thank you to all of them who have helped me try and get justice for my boy.

“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already signed the petition to do so. I just want to give my little boy the support he deserves.”

Hatt was spared an immediate jail term after the boy's dad said his son saw the experience as a 'notch on his son's belt'.

The court heard the boy was mature for his age and the boy's father described him as "sex mad" and "fully up for the experience".

Yesterday the boy's disgusted mother - who is estranged from the father - criticised the judge and told the Adver she was taking advice over appealing against the "lenient" sentence.

The mum, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said she felt utterly violated and blamed her ex for helping their son's abuser avoid a prison sentence.

She said: "He is not sex mad. He is 11 years old. Of course he is interested in girls but that is how it is in the playground.

"It is girls his own age.

"This should be looked at the same as if this was a 21-year-old man having sex with a little girl.

"It is no different in my eyes, and she got away with it way too lightly.

"He is just a normal boy. He would rather be playing his computer games."

The boy's mother added: "I want to try to get this pushed back into court. I think she should have gone to prison and there's no two ways about that.

"I have nothing to do with his dad any more; he helped her get off lightly.

"I was thinking she must go to prison but the comments made by his dad helped her get away with it."

She said Judge Tim Mousley QC should never have accepted Hatt's immaturity as mitigation.

"If I had been there I would have told the judge that outcome was wrong, and it is disgusting that a female is being treated differently to a male," she said.

Hatt, of Swindon, was given a six-month jail term suspended for two years with supervision and told to register as a sex offender for seven years.

Judge Mousley also imposed a sexual harm prevention order banning her from having unsupervised contact with young boys for two years.
