TODAY is the day we should all have hoverboards, clothes which blow-dry us when we get wet and ‘pizza hydrators,’ according to one famous film.

Back To The Future Part II, made 26 years ago, predicted all the above inventions would be everyday commodities by now.

And, while we may have to wait a while for vertical take-off cars and the movie Jaws 19, the film franchise has lived on in the hearts of many for several generations.

As all film buffs will be able to tell you, today is Back To The Future Day – the day which Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel forward to in the popular 1989 film.

When the characters step into famous DeLorean time machine, they arrive in Hill Valley on October 21, 2015.

While the city on show in the film bears very little resemblance to Swindon town centre, fans of the films will get to mark the occasion with a Back To The Future marathon.

To mark the historic film event Cineworld, in Regent Circus, is showing all three of the films back-to-back in a special event.

Cinema manager Matt Baylis says the one of the reasons for the film’s enduring success is that it has something for everyone.

He said: “They are still really popular films. Everyone who saw the Back To The Future films when they first came out still loves them and then people have been watching the film ever since.

“I think they have something for everyone which is why it’s so loved.

“It is a simple story with action, comedy, romance and music.

“I personally am a big fan of them as well. I remember watching them when they were first released and then had the films on VHS so they have been a big part of growing up.”

Although the film did not get everything correct, Matt thinks it is fun to look back at what people thought the future may look like.

“Looking back to see what they got right is also interesting,” he said.

“A lot of it was very far-fetched but it’s fun to see what people thought might happen 30 years ago.”

The first film will start at 6pm with the others shown straight afterwards, with a small interval.
