FLAGSHIP locomotive King George V is now back in Swindon.
The first ‘King’ Class loco built at Swindon Works in June 1927, King George V will be going on show at the STEAM museum as part of celebrations to mark the birth of the town’s railway works.
The loco arrived by lorry in Fire Fly Avenue at about noon today.
King George V and City of Truro, which is also due to arrive soon, are part of the world-class National Collection housed at the National Railway Museum in York.
Both are making the long journey to Swindon by road on low loaders, with City of Truro due to arrive in the next few days.
The locos are on loan from the National Railway Museum.
In order to accommodate both locomotives, current loans Lode Star and the Diesel Railcar are returning to the National Railway Museum in exchange.
STEAM is closed to accomodate the new arrivals and is due to re-open on November 21.
