BUS passengers in Swindon can look forward to a more comfortable ride this spring after Thamesdown Transport announced an investment of £1.4 million in ten new buses for the town.

The first four buses are expected to be delivered in March and April and will feature comfortable, modern high-backed seats along with Free WIFI for passengers.

In recognition of this year’s celebrations around Swindon 175, the 175th anniversary of the GWR Works, the first bus will be named Sir Daniel Gooch.

A further six vehicles are planned to be ordered later in the year subject to the approval of Thamesdown’s Board.

Peter Oliver, Commercial Director for Thamesdown, said: “These vehicles represent a significant investment for Thamesdown and the importance we place on passenger comfort and vehicle performance.

“We’re pleased to be involved in the forthcoming Swindon 175 celebrations and so are looking forward to seeing Sir Daniel Gooch, who was the crucial player in bringing GWR to Swindon, taking passengers around the town.”

The company has also invested in an engine upgrade on a number of older vehicles in its fleet, which they say will improve reliability.
