EMERGENCY services have rushed to the scene of a house fire in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The blaze, which was reported shortly before 7.30am, started in a bedroom of a house in Hart Close, off Station Road.

Police, paramedics and fire crews from Swindon and Westlea attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 7.27am to reports of a house fire in Hart Close.

"We sent one crew from Swindon and another from Westlea, a Red Cross Victim Support Unit is also en route.

"The fire was out by 8.21am - we used two breathing apparatus sets, one hose reel jet and other small gear."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called by the fire service at 7.51am, an ambulance and a rapid response car attended.

"We assessed four patients but none were injured."

Firefighters were unable to access the house when they arrived due to parked cars blocking the road.

One lane of Station Road remains closed to allow firefighters to use it as an access route to the house.

In a more positive aspect to this morning's story, a photo posted on twitter showed trays of tea and coffee brought out for the emergency services by local residents.
