A SWINDON majorette troupe will continue to be perfectly turned out thanks to the help of Cricklade business GWP Packaging.

The Bluebelle Drum Majorettes, who are based in Toothill, are the proud owners of new hatboxes, specially made for them by the packaging company.

The 25-strong troupe, whose ages range from six to 17, travel around the region performing at competitions and local events.

Their hats are a vital and expensive part of the majorette uniform and must be kept safe and dry. But after years of use and being caught in the rain, the original packaging had become old and worn out.

When GWP heard about the problem, and how the hats were at risk of being damaged, they stepped in and provided some specially made boxes. Made from Correx, a light but strong plastic corrugated material, the red hatboxes are both waterproof and durable and, additionally, have a removable nameplate so they can be personalised with the children’s names.

Christine Doyle, Bluebelle’s senior trainer, said the girls were thrilled to receive the new boxes.

She said: “The girls absolutely love their new hat boxes, not only are the hats now safer and better protected but the children love how bright and colourful the boxes are and have loved being able to personalise them with their names.

“We are very grateful to GWP. We are a voluntary children’s group and we strive to keep costs to a minimum so that all children, no matter what their circumstances, have an opportunity to be part of the troupe. Donations such as these really do make a difference to us.”

Managing director Ruth Cook of GWP Packaging said: “When we heard about the state of the old hat boxes we knew that new boxes made from our Correx material would be perfect for the job. We were only too pleased to help out and it has been lovely seeing the girls with the boxes and receiving their thank you letters.”
