POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was left with head injuries following an attack in Penhill on Sunday evening.

Officers were called to Atworth Close shortly after 6pm following reports that a woman was being assaulted.

Two male passers-by intervened in an attempt to help the woman and received minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.

The woman, a 36-year-old from the Penhill area, suffered a minor head injury and was taken to Great Western Hospital by paramedics.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The attackers were in a small, silver car, possibly a Matiz, and drove off shortly afterwards.

“We believe the incident involved two men, both olive skinned. The first was in his mid to late 20s, 5ft 11ins tall, with short dark hair and a fringe.

“He was wearing blue jeans and a pink and purple hooded jumper.

“The second man was smaller and of a stocky build, with short dark receding hair and a goatee beard.

“He was wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt.

“Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101. Alternatively they can phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Following the incident, Atworth Road was taped off while officers conducted enquiries.

It has now been reopened.
