RESIDENTS of North Swindon had a delivery with a difference on Friday, when a Police Community Support Officer arrived at the door with their Chinese.

It is often said that there is more to being a police officer than just fighting crime and on Friday, the men and women of the North Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team proved just that.

Having stopped a car being driven poorly on the road, officers discovered that not only were the driver’s skills behind the wheel not up to scratch, but he also didn’t have any insurance.

They set about seizing the driver’s vehicle – but there was a problem.

The car was being used to ferry orders for a Chinese takeaway, and the sub-standard driver had been caught mid-delivery.

Not to worry however – the officers and PCSOs from the team had a solution.

A spokesperson for the North Swindon NPT wrote on Facebook: “As we like to keep the public both safe and satisfied we 'used our noodle' and made sure the Chinese food was delivered to some startled customers while still hot.

“They must have thought they'd gone crackers when they found a PCSO on the doorstep with their dinner!”

The officers have been applauded on social media for their quick thinking and for going the extra mile, their post describing the event has been shared over 150 times and has received 1,700 likes.

Sally Oakley commented: “That’s ace service, well done.”

Lukasz Jablonksi obviously liked the sound of the new delivery option, he commented: “Next time I fancy a pizza or Chinese, I’ll call 101.”
