WORKERS at car audio brand Clarion in Royal Wootton Bassett are hoping supporters of their Three Peaks challenge later this month will not only dig deep but also provide them with a walking-inspired soundtrack to keep them going.

The three employees at the firm’s Royal Wootton Bassett base will be taking part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge beginning on Friday, April 22. This will see them scale Pen Y Ghent, Whernside and finally Ingleborough as they claim 1,500 metres over 39km.

But to ensure they keep a decent pace up they have called on members of the public to make suggestions for a playlist that will keep them going. The only catch is that all of the songs must have a theme of walking.

Preparing to take part in the event is Michelle Doolan, Clarion’s senior manager for Semi OEM sales and marketing, finance manager Sarah Engley and support engineer Michael Davis.

Michelle, who lives in Old Town said the trio had been busy preparing for the adventure and had been calling on their colleagues to support them – even bringing the challenge to the attention of the wider Clarion Europe group.

She said: “We are all quite excited really, and hopefully we will raise a lot of money for the NSPCC, which is an incredibly worthwhile charity, many of us have children ourselves.

“We all wanted to push ourselves physically – some of us already run, some of us cycle and we all do various different things and it had to be finding something with common ground that we could all do, but obviously we wanted to do something that would push us.

“We looked at a few different things and this one seemed to stand out as a good physical challenge.”

She added the three of them had been busy training hard for the event, both in the gym – where treadmill inclines were set to the max – and out and about in the countryside as well.

“We have had rubbish weather lately, but we may have to face that weather during the Three Peaks so we have to be prepared for all sorts,” said Michelle.

She urged people to come up with some great suggestions for their soundtrack to spur them on, although admitted that having a bottle of Prosecco waiting at the top of the third peak may also help things along too.
