MARION SAUVEBOIS previews comedy duo putting penises in the spotlight

HAVE you heard of the art of genital origami? No? Neither have we.

But its inventor, Simon Morley, has made a cushy career out of it and is more than happy to demonstrate with his own nether regions in Puppetry of the Penis.

The name Puppetry of the Penis was originally conceived by comedy producer Simon Morley, as the title of a highbrow art calendar. Released in 1997, the calendar showcased twelve of Simon's favourite penis installations, but male genitalia on display 12 months a year proved too much for most, and sales were poor, forcing Simon to take the show to the stage to move a car boot full of calendars quickly going out of date.

Quickly realising this was a two-handed show, Simon’s natural choice of partner was David “Friendy” Friend, who had made quite a name for himself on the college and bachelorette circuit performing his own collection of dick tricks.

Their debut at the 1998 Melbourne International Comedy Festival was a huge hit, kicking off an eight-month tour of Australia.

Subsequent sell-out runs in Sydney and Melbourne encouraged the boys to take their wares to the 2000 Edinburgh International Fringe Festival.

When a West End producer realised the potential of the show, the world was no longer safe from the art of genital origami. Contracts and mops were brought out, and a deal was made on the spot.

The show ran in London for six months delighting Londoners and A-list celebrities alike, including Hugh Grant, Naomi Campbell, Elton John, Bono and The Beckhams.

This latest incarnation of the show comes fresh from sin city itself, Las Vegas, where the Puppetry of the Penis has been thrilling audiences for the last year. It will feature some favourites, including the Eiffel Tower, the Lochness Monster, the Pelican and of course, the iconic Hamburger, but also include a host of new shapes, such as Miley Cyrus, Yoda, and the Kardashian.

So if you're looking for a fun first-date show to break the ice, to celebrate your divorce with a bang, have a memorable hen party or just enjoy some good old-fashioned full frontal nudity grab some tickets now.

Puppetry of the Penis comes to the Wyvern Theatre tomorrow night at 8pm. Tickets are £19.50. To book call 01793 524481or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
