TEXTILE and Fashion students from New College dazzled and danced their way through four fashion shows held before a packed audience at the Phoenix Theatre.

This year’s show was a combination of catwalks and choreographed dances to showcase 56 different designer’s work. The inspired pieces were modelled by textile and fashion students and members of New College dance.

Taking in 12 sets all individually themed including Indian Summer, 1940s Fashion, Midnight Gold, British Fashion and Elegance & Style, the work showcased the skills of construction, surface decoration, embroidery, print and weave.

Karen Pau, senior practice leader for Art & Design said: “Every year the students amaze us with their levels of commitment and creativity. They’ve been absolute joy to work with and we are so proud of all their achievements. They’re brilliant ambassadors of not just the art department, but New College as a whole.”

New College media make-up students created the models looks before they strutted down the stage to music from Dolly Parton, The Clash and Amy Winehouse, among others.

Matinees saw students from local schools get an insight in to the world of fashion and textiles, whilst the evening shows saw friends, families and colleagues eagerly await this year’s fashion masterclass from the AS, A2 and NCFE students.

Kate Gale, course leader for textiles said: “Every year I’m left surprised how these students, in a very short space of time, can pull together and choreograph such a complex, yet fantastic show. They’ve been an inspiration and we look forward to continuing to work with the A2 returners next year.”

The students are now embarking on the next level of their careers in textiles and fashion and are either returning to study HND textiles at New College or are heading off around the country to study degree courses in fashion, textiles and costume design.
