CONCERNS over excess speed and dangerous driving on Thamesdown Drive have prompted North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, to call a public meeting.

For years there have been problems along the busy stretch of road, reflected in a significant number of accidents including fatalities.

Whilst the police have increased the number of speed checks, local residents still continue to report incidents of near misses and dangerous behaviour that they have witnessed.

On Friday, Justin Tomlinson will host a meeting at his new office on the Orbital Shopping Park – it will get underway at 6.30pm.

Wiltshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson will be in attendance along with Dale Heenan, the council cabinet member for highways.

The purpose of the meeting is to allow local residents to quiz the representatives from both the police and Swindon Borough Council over what actions they are taking to tackle the problem.

Justin said: “As a fellow local resident I have seen for myself some of the reckless and dangerous driving that takes place on Thamesdown Drive. A number of residents have contacted me to ask how we can put an end to this problem. As a result, I have called upon the two parties who can take action – both the Police and SBC – to constructively work out a solution alongside members of the public.”

North Swindon residents are encouraged to come along on Friday to share their views and relay their concerns.

Justin’s office can be found in the customer service hub at the Orbital, opposite the North Swindon Police Point at the end of the road that runs along the side of the library.
