A MAN has been banned from driving for 20 months after pleading guilty to being at the wheel while under the influence of drugs and being in possession of a Class B drug.

Aaron Alaka-Whyte, 22, of Garratt Lane, was stopped by police on the M4 in the early hours of Wednesday, May 11, after being spotted travelling at 100mph and swerving from side to side.

Upon inspection, police reported being able to smell cannabis and after a drug test the defendant was told he had five micro grams of cannabis in his blood, exceeding the legal limit of 2mcg.

Police also found a one gram bag of the drug stashed in the car.

On Wednesday, Swindon magistrates fined Alaka-White £120 plus a victim surcharge of £30 and ordered him to make an £85 contribution to the costs of the prosecution.

Alaka-Whyte, who has one previous conviction for the possession of Cannabis in 2011, was also banned from driving for 20 months and fined an extra £50 for possessing Cannabis.
