JULY was another busy month for the county’s photographers, who have been out and about capturing the finest views on offer.

Professional and amateur photographers alike have been sharing their eye-catching images with the judges of the VisitWiltshire photograph competition, which has now entered its penultimate month. The annual competition, which is this year supported by the Swindon Advertiser, Wiltshire Times and Gazette & Herald, has seen scores of submissions come flooding in since the contest was launched at the beginning of May.

Each month until the end of September, photographers can submit up to five images captured within the county borders that they feel best captures the spirit of Wiltshire in the hope of being crowned the winner of this year’s competition.

Among the entries the judges have received are photographs from Eldene resident Carolyn Keel. She has been out and about with her camera and captured images of Coate Water, West Woods in Marlborough and Avebury.

Philip Selby from Swindon has also captured some brooding skies at Avebury along with a very misty Vale of Pewsey.

The judges are still very keen to welcome submissions from other photographers, although there are now only two months of the contest remaining, meaning that each photographer can now only submit a maximum of ten photographs – five in August and five in September.

. To be in with a chance of winning, the photos should capture the essence of life in Wiltshire, its people and landscape, and tie in with any of VisitWiltshire's four ‘Timeless’ themes. These are:

• Timeless Wonders: including Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury Cathedral, the Kennet & Avon Canal and Wiltshire’s White Horses

• Timeless Places: including market towns, villages and other attractions

• Timeless Pleasures: including shopping, food and drink, festivals & events, arts & entertainment

• Timeless Nature: including big skies, rolling hills, flora and fauna

There will be one first prize of a £300 voucher for the best photograph overall, plus two runners up prizes of a £50 voucher each.
