NEW College’s second annual LitFest is set take place Tuesday, November 8, which will host six industry professionals from the world of literature, film and performance.

This year, students in A Level English, creative writing and level three journalism will have the opportunity to hear from published authors and poets such as Liam Tate, Jamie Stantion, Santino Prinzi, Gilly Macmillan, Emma Hooper and Mimi Thebo about their writing processes and careers.

Curriculum manager of English and Languages Linda Holmshaw, said: “The New College LitFest is an exciting chance for our students to talk to published writers and gain an insight into the world of the professional writer. It is particularly pleasing that the speakers include ex-students and staff from New College who have been successful in this highly competitive field.”

The college’s ‘Write On!’ competition was held in September and October which required participants from years ten and 11 in schools across Wiltshire and New College 16-18 students to write a short story or poem on any subject. A winner from each group will be announced at the end of the festival and will receive a £50 Amazon voucher in addition a certificate signed by the six visiting writers.

There is a scope for more than 100 students to attend the event and staff who are interested will be attending the workshops as well.

Last year’s LitFest featured writers Jasper Fforde, Gilly Macmillan, Mimi Thebo, journalist Nicola Davies, performance poet Stefan Mohamad and animator Harry Partridge.

LitFest will run throughout the day kicking off with Liam Tate and Jamie Stantion at 9am and end with Mimi Thebo at 3.30pm.
