Lawyers and support staff in the Swindon office of Royds Withy King put on their best orange outfits to show their support for a global awareness campaign organised locally by CRPS UK, the country’s first charity to raise awareness and provide support to people suffering from complex regional pain syndrome.

Many also brought in homemade cakes, biscuits and other treats to mark the third annual Colour the World Orange event and help raise funds for CRPS UK.

CRPS UK is one of the causes which Royds Withy King are particularly close to, having helped the support group to become a registered charity as well as providing ongoing support to clients who have acquired the debilitating neurological condition which leaves them in constant and severe pain.

Louise Hart, a partner in Royds Withy King’s Personal Injury team in Swindon, is one of the few lawyers in the UK to specialise in CRPS-related legal claims.

She said: “This was a great opportunity to unite both offices and raise awareness of this little-understood condition. Our orange outfits provided a great talking point and I’m grateful to everyone who got involved.”

Nichola Cunningham, a CRPS patient who is involved with the charity, visited Royds Withy King to judge the firm’s Best Dressed in Orange competition. This title was awarded to Christine Beck, a receptionist in the Swindon office.

Mrs Cunningham said: “Royds Withy King have been a huge supporter of ours for many years and it was a real pleasure to see so many people entering into the spirit of the day and doing their bit for CRPS.”

CRPS is a severe and debilitating condition which often affects one limb.

The pain is intense and continuous and often the affected limb is swollen and suffers from colour and temperature changes compared with the unaffected limb. The slightest touch, bump or change in environmental temperature can provoke intense pain.

CRPS UK is a patient-led support group and registered charity. To find out more, visit crps-uk.org

Royds Withy King's partners and staff throughout the firm are heavily involved in a wide range of charitable and community-led initiatives. The main beneficiary of the Swindon office’s fund-raising for the last 18 months has been Prospect Hospice, as voted for by the firm’s employees.
