A SWINDON man has been sentenced to six weeks imprisonment following a burglary at a Chippenham pub.

Police were called to the Rose & Crown pub in the Market Place shortly before 4pm on November 17 after a man was spotted inside the pub which was closed at the time.

Staff reported the man had been attempting to empty the till and steal cash and alcohol when they caught him.

A man was arrested and later charged with burglary.

Richard Lowe, aged 39, of Cranmore Avenue, appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Lowe was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment due to his previous record of offending.

PCSO Sarah Moth said: "Lowe is a prolific offender who has committed a number of burglaries in the past.

"On Thursday, officers received a call to the Rose & Crown reporting that a man had entered the premises and stolen alcohol and money.

"Lowe was swiftly arrested and has now been imprisoned for six weeks.

"We would encourage anyone wishing to report suspicious activity to call 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
