A SWINDON motorist has been fined more than £500 for driving without a full driving licence and £100 for possession of cannabis.

Linval Calvin Nicholson, aged 34, of Walter Close, appeared before Wiltshire Magistrates sitting at Swindon and admitted charges of driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, of using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and of possessing a controlled drug of Class B.

The court heard that Nicholson had been seen on November 11 this year driving a Peugeot 206 erratically on the Wotton Basset road in Swindon when he was the only occupant of the car.

When stopped by police Nicholson was found to have no licence to drive on his own and a small amount of cannabis, together with a set of scales, was seized. He did have a provisional licence.

The cannabis was a small bud with a street value of £10, prosecutor Pauline Lambert told the court.

Ms Lambert added that Nicholson had last appeared in court in July this year when he had been fined for possession of cannabis.

Magistrates told Nicholson that his licence would be endorsed with eight points for driving without insurance together with a fine of £513. As he had already had six points on his provisional licence he would be disqualified from driving for nine months.

For possession of cannabis he was fined £100. He was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £51.
