A MAN who threatened to burn down the Mailcoach pub on October 23 has been handed a community order by magistrates.

Michael Coughlin, 28, of William Street, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Swindon magistrates.

He also admitted carrying out an assault on the same day and was handed a community order which bans him from entering the Fleet Street pub and must pay a total of £265 in fines and compensation.

Phillip Goddard, 23, of Luna Close, pleaded guilty to assault dating back to May when he appeared before magistrates earlier this month. 

Godard was handed a community order which prevents him from entering the Woodlands Edge pub in Peatmoor for 12 months and he must also carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation and costs of £185.

Wezley McGregor, 29, of Drakes Way is to face a trial at Chippenham Magistrates' Court after pleading not guilty to three counts of assault taking place between August and November.

McGregor, who appeared before Swindon magistrates also pleaded not guilty to cruelty to a child under 16 on the same date as well as criminal damage. He was released on conditional bail until the trial date on December 14.

A 63-year-old Swindon woman who admitted a charge of careless driving when she appeared before magistrates earlier this month. 

Pauline Low, of Twineham Road, was stopped by police on June 19 in Salthrop. She had her licence endorsed with five points and was fined £530.

Anthony Pordage, of Breach Lane, Royal Wootton Bassett, has been disqualified from driving for 18 months after he admitted drink-driving on November 5 in New Road.

Magistrates heard how Pordage had 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath despite the legal limit being 35 microgrammes of alcohol. The 51-year-old that he must also pay back fines and costs totalling £569.

James Wheaton, of Jonson Close, Swindon, has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving back in September. 

The 18-year-old also admitted driving with no insurance or licence and failing to stop when asked by the police. Magistrates adjourned the case until December 16 in order for a pre-sentence report to be produced. He was released on unconditional bail until the hearing.

A 26-year-old has been fined after admitting he was over the legal alcohol limit while driving in Thamesdown Drive on November 6. 

Sam Fish, of Oakhurst Way, appeared before Swindon magistrates who heard he had was found to have 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg. 

Magistrates ordered him to pay £514 in fines and he was banned from driving for 17 months.

Steven Orchard, 38, of Whitworth Road, has pleaded not guilty to allegedly stealing cheese, chocolate and a milkshake from Co-Op in Cricklade Road on November 6. 

Orchard, who appeared before Swindon magistrates, also pleaded not guilty to stealing two bottles of perfume from Sports Direct on November 13. He was released on bail until January 16 where he will face a trial at Chippenham Magistrates' Court.

Maciej Tomczyk, 29, of Turner Street, stole Reebok shoes, to the value of £39.99 from TK MAXX on October 29. 

Tomczyk pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Swindon magistrates where he also admitted stealing a Michael Kors jacket from the store.  Magistrates ordered him to pay £184.99.

Magistrates fined a man £440 and ordered him to pay £160 court costs after he travelled on a train to Swindon on June 16 without paying the £35.10 fare.

Kenny Thomas, 28, of Gower Close, Basingstoke, was also instructed to pay a victim surcharge of £44 and compensation of £35.10 after Swindon magistrates found the case proved.

Kelly Hill will have to pay out almost £680 in fines and court costs after failing to buy a £35.10 rail ticket. Hill, 24, of Eshton Walk, was caught on June 1.

A 49-year-old admitted stealing a sandwich, a bottle of milk and some beer from Asda.

Steven Cummings, of Corfe Road, appeared before magistrates in Swindon and was ordered to pay back the £16.75 he owed.

Kris Davidson, of Tintagel Close, Toothill stole a crate of beer, to the value of £13 from Asda in West Swindon on October 27.

After admitting the charge at magistrates in Swindon, the 26-year-old was told to pay back what he owed as well as court costs of £85.

Rail passenger Andrew Carter who failed to buy a £27.50 ticket has been fined £440 and ordered to pay compensation for the ticket.

Carter, 42, of Cranbury Avenue, Southampton, was caught at Swindon. He was ordered to pay £160 prosecution costs and a £44 victim surcharge.

Mark Stiggers, 26, of Edmund Street, will face a trial at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court in the New Year after pleading not guilty to breaching a restraining order before Swindon magistrates earlier this month.

He was released on conditional bail until January 17.

Magistrates imposed a restraining order on Matthew Wood, of Carstairs Avenue, after he admitted harassing a woman by continually phoning her, texting messages, turning up on her doorstep and following her when she was out and about.

Wood, 32, was also fined £250 and told to pay £85 prosecution costs along with a £30 victim surcharge when he appeared before Swindon magistrates.
