A JUDGE has issued a warrant for the arrest of a man caught driving while disqualified while on a suspended sentence for drugs offences.

Mark Roberts, 45, was due to appear before a judge at Swindon Crown Court after breaching the order by committing a new offence.

But when Roberts failed to turn up for the hearing Judge Peter Blair QC issued a warrant for his arrest without bail.

Roberts, of Broad Street, was put on a two-year jail term suspended for two years in October last year plus 150 hours of unpaid work, of which he has done just one.

He had admitted possessing the drugs with intent to supply, having criminal property in the form of £750 failing to surrender to custody and theft of a TV from Tesco.

A 28-YEAR-OLD man who stole 21 Yankee Candles worth more than £400 in one month has been jailed.

Lee Allen, of Torrington Court, pleaded guilty to the thefts from Boots in the Brunel Shopping Centre which took place on November 4, 19 and 29. Allen also admitted failing to comply with the terms of a supervision order when he appeared before magistrates sitting in Swindon on December 5.

Due to targeting the same premises 13 times in a month Allen was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment for the Yankee candle thefts and two weeks imprisonment for failure to comply, to run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

A man has been found guilty of using threatening behaviour towards a woman, despite denying the charge.

Bryan Chubb, 35, of Imber Walk, pleaded not guilty to the charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause that person to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against her. The matter went to trial and he was found guilty.

They imposed a six-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, due to the nature of the offence and the immediate threat of unlawful violence and list of previous convictions.

He also received a four week custodial sentence - to be served concurrently - for missing his day in court. He must also pay a victim surcharge of £115.

Caught behind the wheel of an Audi A3 he didn't have permission to drive, with no driving licence or insurance, but an amount of cannabis on him has seen a teenager landed with a hefty court fine.

Arkadiusz Rusek, 18, of Swindon Street, Highworth, pleaded guilty to all charged put to him when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates' Court.

The bench was told that on November 17 he had taken the 07-plate Audi A3 without the owner's permission, despite not having a driving licence and therefore no insurance. When he was stopped on Ocotal Way officers also found him in possession of an amount of cannabis.

The magistrates fined him a total of £600, imposed six penalty points on his licence and ordered he pay a £30 victim surcharge along with £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. They also ordered the cannabis be destroyed.

A man who is accused of stealing more than £1,000 worth of denim from a town centre store has been released on bail by a judge.

John Young, 36, is said to have taken the Levi's jeans worth £1,040 from Debenham's on Saturday ,June 25, following the theft of a till drawer from the store two days earlier.

No charges were put to Young, of Norman Road, at Swindon Crown Court and he did not enter any pleas.

Judge Tim Mousley QC adjourned the case to Friday, January 13.
