FOR some couples, Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to tie the knot on the most romantic day of the year.
A spokesman atthe Register Office at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street said it usually welcomes two or three couples on Valentine’s Day but this year demand was not so high. Only one wedding is booked in today.
But not everyone feels positive about the day, especially if they haven’t got someone to share it with.
Swindon Samaritans are urging people who feel lonely or isolated today to get in touch.
“Valentine’s Day, with its emphasis on happy couples and relationships, can be a difficult day for many, not just because they haven’t got a partner,” said Swindon branch acting director Paul Bentley.
“A third of the people who contact Samaritans volunteers mention being lonely or socially isolated, and our volunteers regularly have people contacting them because their relationship has broken down, or they are experiencing abuse.”
The organisation can be called free from any phone on 116 123 or call the Swindon branch on 01793 537373 or at jo@samaritans.org
