PLANS are now almost complete for the launch of the programme for the 24th Swindon Festival of Literature, which will run from May 1-13.
This year’s new 40-page colour programme will be unveiled at noon on Thursday, March 16, at Swindon’s Central Library.
Authors due to appear include author-politician David Owen; prize-winning novelists Lionel Shriver, Mark Lawson and Xiaolu Guo; columnist Polly Toynbee; psychiatrist-author Oliver James; philosophers Roman Krznaric and Stephen Law; comedian Francesca Martinez; science guru Marcus du Sautoy; kidnap-survivor Terry Waite; Graham Harvey, a linchpin of radio soap opera The Archers; royal writer Ingrid Seward; solo explorer Benedict Allen; and radio’s Charlotte ‘The Voice’ Green.
As well the more than 50 events spread over two weeks, there are also talks, discussions, readings, and storytelling at theatres, arts venues, libraries, parks, pubs, museums, and even an ex-cowshed, in Swindon.
Festival regular events also include the early-morning Dawn Chorus; the Swindon Think Slam; a Children and Families Day; the 21st Swindon Poetry Slam; and the Poems, Pints, and Music Finale.
