A DATE on whether controversial plans to build over 100 homes in Wroughton will be made public in May, it has been confirmed.

A planning inquiry into the application was held in January and both the council and developers Hannick Homes put their cases forward to the Planning Inspectorate on whether 103 new homes should be build on land off Marlborough Road in the village.

At the inquiry, inspector Neil Pope heard how the planning row started in 2015 when the application was first submitted.

Swindon Borough Council and Wroughton Parish Council both rejected the proposals as well as residents living in the area and the plans were initially rejected as they fell outside land set aside for housing in the Local Plan.

But on appeal, Hannick Homes argued that permission should be granted as the council had fallen short of the five year housing supply.

Under the scheme, 30 per cent of the houses would be affordable but in order to gain access to the fields behind Marlborough Road, homes in The Old Bakery would have to be demolished.

Following the inquiry, the Inspector's report was sent to the Secretary of State for consideration and it was confirmed this week that a decision will be issued before May 17.
