KIDS and grown-ups are in for a treat this April as a group of committed fundraisers prepares to host a spring fair for Brighter Futures.

Staff at South Marston-based distribution firm DHL are inviting families to Gorse Hill Community Centre for a day of fun, food and thrills all for a good cause.

Staff organised a craft and car boot sale for Brighter Futures before Christmas and they are keen to see their fundraising activities continue until the radiotherapy unit is finally built in Swindon.

Warehouse stock handler Claire Cambridge, who has worked at DHL for the past 27 years and was the driving force behind last year’s fundraiser, said: “We hope the spring fair will be a really successful event and lots of people will come down to support us.

“We would like to thank everybody who has donated raffle prizes and who has offered to lend a hand on the day. We hope to raise as much money as we possibly can for Brighter Futures because it’s so important that Swindon gets that scanner.

“I think it’s really important because so many people have to travel to Oxford for radiotherapy treatment.”

Families will be treated to a whole host of fun activities. There will be almost 30 tables offering a range of different knick-knacks and goodies, plenty of refreshments and a raffle.

Claire said: “We don’t want to set a fundraising target, we just want to get as much as we possibly can. We would be happy with anything over £300.”

Earlier last year, before the car boot sale, staff even took part in a cycle ride from Swindon to Paris. They didn’t actually travel to France, though. They set bikes up in the office and cycled the equivalent distance over a six-week period and managed to raise more than £600.

The spring fair takes place on Saturday, April 8, from 10.30am until 2.30pm at the Gorse Hill Community Centre, Chapel Street.

There will be a modest 50p entry fee and all the home-made samosas you could ever wish for.

So far £1,500,000 has been raised for Brighter Futures. The team is very grateful for every single donation and wish to thank everyone for their support. To donate, cut out and send in the donation form or log on to: www.brighterfuturesgwh.nhs.uk.
