A MAN has been jailed for attacking a woman in Swindon and two men who went to her aid.
Two men called police after they heard a woman’s screams coming from a vehicle in Atworth Close as they were passing by on the early evening of Sunday, April 3, last year.
The pair rushed to her aid, but during their attempts to help, they too were assaulted.
One of the men, a 36-year-old man from Swindon, was assaulted with a baseball bat, while the second man, a 35-year-old also from Swindon, sustained three stab wounds.
Cristiano Quizado Reami, 37, pleaded not guilty to assault causing grievous bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm but was found guilty by a jury.
Reami, of The Greenway, Bristol, was jailed for four and a half years at Swindon Crown Court for the attacks on Friday.
Detective Constable Mike Armishaw said: “These two men showed great bravery and courage to step in and try and help before officers arrived at the scene. They acted quickly, and courageously during a violent incident, regardless of their own safety.
“Although one of the men sustained three stab wounds when he slipped and fell to the ground during the attack, he was lucky to escape with only minor injuries.
“I am pleased with the verdict and the sentence handed out to Reami. It reflects the serious nature of the crime.”
