COATE Water is to be turned into a superheroes’ playground next month as an annual fun run returns in style.

Last year, throngs of caped crusaders took part in Brighter Futures’ Superhero Run around Lydiard Park.

Around 300 runners dressed as Batman, Superman, Captain America, Wonder Woman and Super Granny, to name just a few, took their place at the start line and huffed and puffed their way round the course.

And hoping to build on last year’s success, the team will be hosting another Superhero Run, this time around Coate Water, on Sunday, May 6.

There are still 50 places left for the event, so would-be heroes are urged to grab the remaining places while they still can.

Chloe Thomas, community and events fundraiser for Brighter Futures, said: “If you have been inspired to run the London Marathon then this is a great place to start.

“There will be live music and refreshments along the way and dog owners are encouraged to bring their pets along. There will be prizes for the best dressed and we hope that everyone has a fantastic day.”

Last year, runners heard such apt classics as David Bowie’s Heroes, Mariah Carey’s Hero and Cartoon Heroes by Aqua.

It costs £10 per adult and £7 for under 16s; under 5s go free. All participants are asked to raise £50 each for taking part in the challenge, although this is optional.

All you have to do is name your superhero and then decide if you’d like to run, jog or walk 3k or 5k.

Everyone gets a medal at the finish line and prizes will be given for the best dressed superheroes.

Chloe added: “It would be great to be able to raise £10,000 from the run. That all comes down to people fundraising because the entry fee only pays for the event to be organised.

“If I had a dream it would be for the run to bring in £10,000. It would make a huge difference for us as we push on with fundraising this year.”
