INSPIRED by her late grandfather to put on her trainers for charity, Amy Hadland will be running in his footsteps when she takes part in the marathon in aid of Swindon Mind.

The 26-year-old HR advisor, from West Swindon, stumbled across an Adver clipping showing her granddad, Peter Walker, had also competed in the race in the 1980s.

Nick Bohane, 34, has already raised £1,000 for St John Ambulance, a charity close to his heart as wife Amber is a first aider with the organisation. It will be his second London Marathon after he completed it last year in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Young mum Sophie Beale will also be running, raising money for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust after a brush with cervical cancer. The 30-year-old from Taw Hill, is determined to raise awareness of the importance of having a regular smear test.

Swindon Harrier Hannah Claydon smashed her personal best during the Yeovil Half Marathon after winning the race with a time of 83mins 49secs to slash 3:29 off her previous best set three years ago.

The 23-year-old will be raising money for the Tusk Trust in Sunday’s marathon.

Mike Wootton, 62, has pledged to raise £2,300 for Prospect Hospice in memory of his mother who was cared for by the hospice before her death last year.

Mum-of-two Allison Pearson, 42, from Lawn is also running in aid of Prospect Hospice who cared for her father until his death in 2009. She was due to take part in the marathon in 2015 but an operation saw her have to pull out.

Inspired by the care he has seen given to others by the hospice, Toothill resident Stephen Mottram will also pull on his running shoes in aid of Prospect.

Warren Johnson was all set for the big day but had to pull out of the marathon at the last minute after he twisted his ankle. At first, he feared that he’d broken it but doctors reassured him that it was just swollen.

He was fundraising for Prospect Hospice, who looked after his partner Sophie before she died on Christmas Day in 2012. So far, he’s raised more than £300.
