HIGHWAYS England is advising drivers to allow extra time for their journeys if they are travelling along the M4 on Saturday

A crowed of 75,000 are expected at the UEFA Champions’ League final in Cardiff when Real Madrid and Juventus will contest the final at the National Stadium of Wales.

Another 100,000 people without tickets are expected to travel to Cardiff on the day for the kick-off at 7.45pm.

Real Madrid fans will predominantly use Bristol and Birmingham airports, although many are expected to travel from London, with over 900 coaches being used to transport fans to and from the event.

Highways England is anticipating an additional 10,000 vehicles on the road network and traffic flows around the Almondsbury interchange at Bristol are expected to peak between 9am and 3pm.

Gareth Price, south west emergency planning officer for Highways England, said: “We have placed roadside messages well in advance of the event but we would like to remind road users to plan ahead for the Champions' League Final.

"Roads leading to the event are likely to be very busy, particularly the M4 westbound, M49 and local roads around Bristol Airport as well as the M5 southbound, M42, M50 and A40.

“Our aim is to keep the Highways England network running whilst keeping football fans and other road users safe and informed.

"People travelling to Cardiff are advised to get there by 10am and on the day we advise people to check our traffic and travel information channels, set off early and allow plenty of time.”

For those people aiming to travel to the UEFA Champions' Festival, which takes place around the final from June 1 to June 4, they are advised to consider avoiding Saturday's event.
