STAFF at a popular Swindon fish and chip shop got into the party mood yesterday as they donned fancy dress to raise funds for charity.

The laughs, which took place at Britz Fish And Chips in the West Swindon Shopping Centre, marked National Fish And Chip Day, an initiative launched in 2015 to celebrate one of the nation’s favourite dishes.

Cash was also raised for national charity The Fisherman’s Mission, which helps all fishermen, active or retired, and their families.

Britz’s branch manager Alan Clark said: “As part of National Fish And Chip Day we have dressed up to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.

“We have gone back in time with 1960s-inspired costumes. We have a teddy boy and a hippy girl and a butler in the buff.

“It has been a really good laugh with customers, who all seemed to enjoy it. I think the costumes have taken some of them back to their own generations.”

Explaining why the staff chose to fundraise for The Fisherman’s Mission, Alan said: “We always support them because our fishermen go out in all conditions to catch our fish. It’s not the easiest of jobs and it can be very dangerous indeed.

“They do a wonderful job.”
