FOODIES descended on North Swindon at the weekend as the Eats from the Street food festival rolled into the Orbital Shopping Park.

It’s the second year running that the Orbital has hosted the pop-up street food festival, and this year was even more popular than last.

Food lovers were treated to speciality dishes from all over the world, including Thai noodles and curries, American style burgers and hotdogs and a mouth-watering selection a pastries.

Event producer, Rhiannon Parsons, said: “Eats from the Street is something we do to bring street food to the area.

“We go all around the country with the pop-up stalls and give people a chance to try food from all over the world. It’s all about bringing something in that’s a little bit different.

“Street food is very popular at the moment and with so much to choose from it’s easy to see why.”

Visitors were able to tuck into their food on board a converted double decker Routemaster bus, which had been transformed into a novelty dining area.

Jamie Turner, centre manager, thought it was great to see so many people enjoying the food.

He said: “We wanted to build on last year’s success and make it slightly bigger this time. I think it’s fantastic to be able to bring something like this to the site.

“The reaction so far has been great, everyone seems to be enjoying the food from all the different retailers.”

The Russian dumplings and the kebabs from Soviet Kitchen were among the crowd favourites.

Debs Hancock, 34, from North Swindon, had brought along her daughters Charlotte, 8, and Rebecca, 9, for a bite to eat before doing the weekly shop.

Debs said: “I think it’s great having something like this practically on your doorstep. I love street food and I think the kids have really enjoyed it as well.

“The burgers were delicious, some of the best I’ve ever tasted.”

Rebecca said she enjoyed the Thai food the most, while Charlotte simply couldn’t make up her mind.

Young couple Mark Redgrave and Hannah D’Arcy also stopped for a quick bite during their weekend shopping trip.

Mark, 25, from Freshbrook, said: “Looks great, can’t complain. The double decker bus is a nice touch and I think it’s going to be quite hard to decide what to have – we may have to have a little bit of everything.”

The festival will continue from 11am on Sunday.
