SINGING sensation Lewis Blissett has spoken to the Adver after his exit from The Voice Kids on Saturday night.

The 13-year-old from Old Town was one of 12 contestants in the singing competition’s semi-final but was not chosen to be one of the finalists despite a strong performance of ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’ that got a standing ovation from the audience.

Lewis’ pop superstar vocal coach and team captain Pixie Lott made the difficult decision to send Riccardo and Jess through to the final and ran up onto the stage to comfort Lewis and his fellow semi-finalist Sophia.

Jess went on to win the competition in the live final on Sunday.

Lewis said: "When Pixie said the last person's name, I nodded but then I saw Sophia's face and she started to cry and that me cry because it was all so overwhelming.

"At first, I found it hard to connect with the song I had to sing because I'd never heard it before and it was quite a hard song to pull off.

"In the 'battle' rounds, I'd gotten used to practicing with two other people so going back to performing on my own was quite difficult.

"Talking to the other contestants helped calm my nerves, everyone was so supportive, we all worked together and helped each other, it was a really creative space."

Lewis reminisced about the start of his surreal journey to stardom.

"I didn't even think I'd make it through to the blind auditions to be honest," he said.

"We went to London three times and then one day I was in my bed about to go to sleep and my mum came in to tell me I'd made it through to the blinds.

"I was so excited, I screamed."

His proud mum Kelly Newman was thrilled by how well he'd done and teased that they've been contacted by music labels since he left the competition.

She said: “He went out with a bang and with his head held high, he's done Swindon proud.

"Obviously I wanted him to go through to the final but everyone has been amazing, the contestants and the producers, the response from people in Swindon, it's been unbelievable.

"It's sad that it's over but this is just the beginning really."

Lewis also received a free scholarship to Pixie Lott's summer school Italia Conti and plans to keep on singing.
