A JURY has heard from a man who tried in vain to keep the peace in the aftermath of an incident of 'ill feeling' in a nightclub.

Cori Pincombe, 25, of Surrey Road, Swindon, is on trial accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Stacey Griffiths on January 30, 2016, outside the Elevation Nightclub in Bruton Way, Gloucester.

Ms Griffiths was left with a wound to her right cheek that required 40 stitches.

Kieran Rimmer, a friend of Ms Griffiths who also knew Pincombe, told jurors at Gloucester Crown Court how the situation spiralled out of control on the street outside the club following tension between the two women inside.

Mr Rimmer told the court the evening had started as a typical night out where everyone was on a social.

He said he had known Ms Griffiths for over 20 years and noticed a 'cattish' attitude between the defendant and Ms Griffiths during the evening.

"That's probably the best way of putting it. Staring at each other, giving each other glares. I don't think anything happened to start it," said Mr Rimmer.

Prosecutor, James Haskell asked: "Was there any contact between them?"

"Yes, there was a bit of barging and shoving. It was on and off for maybe an hour or two," said Mr Rimmer.

He told the court that while everyone was queuing up for their coats Pincombe made a sarcastic comment towards Ms Griffiths.

"Her (Pincombe's) attitude, her body language made me think she was looking for an argument," he said.

As they were leaving the nightclub Mr Rimmer said: "There was a lot of shouting and swearing between them, some harsh words were exchanged. There was more shouting and aggression and I'm getting squeezed in the middle. It happened so fast.

"There was a lot of noise, shouting and screaming. A load of police officers, security guards and bouncers came running over."
