A CAT who was rescued from certain death on a Greek island has gone missing in Swindon.

Hiros came to Swindon three years ago after Phil Millington-Hore and his wife Cara we charmed by him on holiday in Santorini.

Having gone through quarantine, undergone rabies jabs and been treated fleas and worms, the stray was flown off the island on the last charter flight before the end of the season.

He settled in to their home in Cob Hill with their three cats and although they had intended to find a new home for him, they decided they couldn’t let him go.

“We always thought we would save him, get him healthy and pass him to a friend, but we fell in love with him.”

At one point he went missing for four days but he turned up on the doorstep just as they called in professional help to find him.

But on July 17 he disappeared again and there has been no sign of him.

““Ever since he went missing last year he has never gone far. He always comes back two to three times a day,” said Phil.

My wife and I are heartbroken and we are trying everything to find him and get him home again. We have been out every night and some days walking the local areas calling and searching.”

They have even asked neighbours to check their CCTV. But to no avail. “He is extremely road clever and socially smart,” said Phil. He explained Hiros was used to erratic drivers back in Greece and viewed people as a source of tasty scraps.

But he was also confident and was capable of climbing in open delivery vans out of curiosity.

“We can only assume he has jumped in a truck and has ended up miles away or someone has taken him in thinking he’s a stray.”

Anyone who might have seen Hiros, who is microchipped and neutered, is asked to call 07967 350141.
